PUBLIC SPEAKING AND LEADERSHIP: The videos
Guilford Speakers: PresentationThis presentation video was produced in 2008. It gives a 360° view on the different activities that we go through at almost every meeting.20 persons in average will have a specific role during the evening and it is not only the speakers. That what constitutes the leadership development on top of the public speaking skills. Roles include the toastmaster (master of ceremony), timekeeper, grammarian, evaluators, etc. Each new member will receive 2 manuals: one which describes how should be constructed the first 10 speeches, the second describes the roles and the leadership skills required. We need to stick to time and everything gets evaluated so every person will receive valuable feedback on his/her performance and can improve in a safe environment. Of course, there is a lot of laughter and it is a very relaxed (yet serious) atmosphere. |

Evaluation Workshop by Hilary BriggsThis is the first video of a series of 7 that I produced in May 2009. Hilary Briggs is a very experienced Toastmaster and she is an Evaluation Champion as she won the Evaluation Contest in the UK.Giving effective and genuine feedback to someone is a skill which every leader should master. Hilary gives a simple formula to fit the 2 minutes feedback format imposed at Toastmasters. Now could you imagine being in a position to give this sort of powerful feedback in any situation of your life, at work, in the family, with friends,... |

A warm up demonstration by Francois Teyssier (ActingAdvantage.co.uk)This was filmed during a Toastmasters Speech Contest in Dorking.Warm Up is very important in order to prepare the speakers but also the audience and this is rarely performed in meetings. Think about it, if the people listening to you are still focusing on the problems and situations they were going through before your speech, do you think their level of attention would be very high? Do you think they may remember more than 5% of what you said? Probably not. So why not making sure they are ok, relaxed and ready to listen by performing a short warm up? |

Speakers Club Social and fun eveningFrancois Teyssier and myself were performing this short and fun act during the Christmas party in 2008.In each club, we organise frequent social meetings like that. It can be simple having drinks and a chat or do what we love: Speaking and Performing. As a member of a Toastmasters Club, you can organise your own social events, to celebrate something or maybe more interestingly, to test your own project by asking several members to come to support you and give feedback on your personal presentation, even if it is related to your job or something not connected to Toastmasters. And I find that invaluable. |

Story Telling in Farnham (Surrey)Another very different and challenging exercise: Speaking to entertain young children! This project was done with François Teyssier and other friends from Toastmasters Guildford. This time, the body language was paramount to retain the attention and involvement of the young audience. Not to mention, we had a lot of fun doing these sessions in Farnham. |
